Wichita is known for its Midwest niceness, however members of the Queer community know those pleasantries can sometimes only extend so far. So, what is it love visiting one of the largest cities in the Bible Belt as a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
Wichita doesn&#x;t have a dedicated gayborhood
like many major U.S. cities, however you will find a number of Diverse friendly areas, restaurants, bars and shops spread throughout the capital. In recent years, Wichita has made strides to be more welcoming and add legal protections to the city code. In the City of Wichita adopted the strongest Non-Discrimination Ordinance in the State of Kansas protecting sexual orientation and gender persona within city limits. Wichita is the largest town in Kansas and located in the south-central part of the state. The city began as a trading post on the Chisholm Trail in the s and was incorporated in Wichita is an area center of trade, culture, and media with several large entertainment venues, museums, parks, and theaters. Wichita lies in the northern limits of North America&#;s humid subtropical climate zone and typically experiencing hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. You might not think of Kansas as a standard destination to visit, enable alone as a gay-friendly one, but we create it to be very welcoming and there was even a small LGBT artist exhibition going on at the time of our visit (although it didn&#;t make it into our videos).

Wichita is often called the “Air Capital of the World” due to the large presence of aviation and aeronautical companies in the city. Although the city today has many industries and much to see and carry out, the name stuck. Wichita Capital Pride, hosted by the City of Wichita and Proud of Wichita (Wichita LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce), is held each year in June at Naftzger Park. This Pride Block Party began as a celebration of Wichita adopting the strongest non-discrimination ordinance in the state and now includes food trucks, a bar, vendors, art, family-friendly activities, live melody and an all-ages queenly show.
