A woman left her 'dream' husband, property and career behind when she realised she was queer at 35 - and now travels the world and living out of a suitcase. Lauren Burgess, 37, consideration she had the perfect life until she broke out in chronic hives, due to press, and started having therapy which led her to realise she was a lesbian.
She had 'experimented' with women in her college years but thought it was 'just a bit of fun'. After seeing people on social media embracing different labels, she began to work out her sexuality.
In February she took the plunge and left her husband, Matt, 40, after four years of marriage to travel the West coast of America in a van with her canine, Ted, a Goldendoodle. Now she has expanded her travels to Europe exploring cities like Lisbon, London, Paris and Amsterdam - whilst embracing her sexuality.

Coming Out Stories
Story 1:
Well, I came out when I was 16 and it was a really giant cop out really I suppose. I wrote a letter to my mum and dad and left it in my bedroom and then went out and go totally pissed. And then the next day I had to call my dad to come and collect me because I was totally hungover and it was the awkwardest car journey ever. My dad’s quite an older guy and it was the first time in my existence that I’d ever seen him cry and he cried his eyes out and he was really upset. And then my mum and dad didn’t really mention it for a while. And then I suppose I told the rest of my family and then they just became more accepting about it I suppose.
Although I was only 16 so it was quite a big step and my dad seemed to think it was a phase and that I “had lots of girls that were my friends so what was wrong?” type of stuff. But he’s pretty laid support about the issue now. He calls my companion son and he’s quite happy with the situation so there’s no concrete worries. I suppose any advice is just be open and honest.
